Monthly Electrical Safety Call - May
Our May Electrical Safety Community Call focused on preventing electrical incidents through improved commissioning practices, energy control procedures, and arc flash risk management.
The session included a review of a real-world 11kV arc flash incident, highlighting the importance of accurate electrical drawings, effective isolation procedures, and live-dead-live testing. Attendees also discussed best practices for first energisation, lockout/tagout (LOTO) systems, electrical PPE standards, and arc flash hazard management across construction, commissioning, and operational environments.
The community shared insights on digital versus paper-based energy control systems, electrical competency development, and emerging challenges associated with higher-voltage DC infrastructure in modern data centres. Ongoing workstreams continue to develop practical guidance and industry benchmarks aimed at improving electrical safety performance and reducing risk across mission-critical facilities.
